About Brian Walker

Candidate Background

Brian Walker is a lawyer in Fort Worth who practices criminal law, military and veteran’s law, and civil litigation. A seventh generation Texan, Walker was born and raised in the DFW Metroplex. Walker received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State University, which is now named Texas State University. While attending college in San Marcos, Walker worked as a messenger for the Texas Legislature, was an intern for the first George W. Bush presidential campaign, and later served as an Assistant Sergeant at Arms of the Texas State Senate. Walker received his law degree from the University of Houston. While attending law school, Walker clerked for famed attorney Richard “Racehorse” Haynes.

Immediately after law school, Brian Walker worked as an Assistant District Attorney in East Texas. After leaving the prosecutor’s office in Harrison County, Walker went into private practice. During the five years Walker was in East Texas, he also worked as an adjunct professor of state and federal government at a local college. Walker ran as the Republican nominee for District 11 of the Texas House of Representatives in 2008. In his bid for the State Representative seat, Walker raised over $375,000 in campaign contributions and was endorsed by many political heavyweights. Among them was Ed Meese, who served as United States Attorney General under President Ronald Reagan. Walker lost his bid to the Democrat incumbent by a nominal 120 votes in the four county East Texas district. He did so while most other statewide Republican candidates lost their challenges to Democrat incumbents by an average greater than eight percentage points.

Despite many pleas from supporters for Walker to stay in East Texas and run again in the upcoming “off year” election cycle, Walker chose to move back home to DFW. Walker and his wife Erica live in Fort Worth. Walker’s law practice is located in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. Walker is the former Chairman of the Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans Committee of the Tarrant County Bar Association and the co-founder of the monthly pro-bono program for veterans serviced by that group for the past three years in Fort Worth. Walker is a frequent author and lecturer on various legal topics for several legal publications and seminars throughout Texas.

Brian Walker is a Captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Air Force Reserves. Walker was recently honored in the Fort Worth Business Press “40 Under 40” list as being among the forty individuals in the area, under the age of forty, who have been the most successful in their respective professions and who are making the biggest impact in the area through community service.
